Understand the wood before changing the finish.
Olympia is part of Mario’s primary Thurston County service area, served from his Yelm base. If you want to retain an existing wood floor, the first question is what condition it is in—not simply which stain color to choose.
Understand the floor before changing its finish
Share anything you know about previous sanding or refinishing, old coatings, and the wood beneath them. If flooring has been covered by carpet, photographs of exposed sections, fastener marks, and transitions can help frame the assessment.
Hardwood floor refinishing depends on having an appropriate sanding surface. Some marks may remain, and not every engineered floor can be sanded. Read refinish or replace? to compare the questions involved.
Address missing or damaged sections separately
Areas left by a removed wall, a damaged board, or an old floor opening may need repair & restoration. Discuss matching wood dimensions and appearance; an exact match should not be assumed.
If you are extending flooring into another room, review installation. Subfloor conditions and height differences can matter as much as the visible wood.
Arrange an Olympia assessment
Include the rooms involved, whether they are occupied, and how furniture or access may affect the work. Discuss any need to coordinate flooring with other renovation work before agreeing on a sequence.
